about me
Nice to virtually meet you!
I’m Robyn, a psychotherapist, supervisor, university tutor and - somewhat accidentally - a content creator!
I’ve spent the last 12 years working with children, young people, and families, beginning my career in social care and family support before moving into children’s mental health around 8 years ago.
I trained as a Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) which is a role developed from the adult version of the role, Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) and have since progressed through senior clinical and supervisory roles, most recently completing training in High-Intensity CBT.
Although much of my clinical experience has been within children and young people’s services, the CBT models I’ve trained in are established across age groups. I’ve worked with older young people, including those aged 18 and have extensive experience working therapeutically with parents too.
I’m also a bit of a psychology nerd! Understanding how people think, feel and behave is genuinely one of my favourite things to learn about. I am continually developing my practice through further training, including learning from different therapeutic approaches.

Therapy That Cuts Through the Noise…
You may know me as The Metal Therapist - my social media platform where I combine two things I’m rather passionate about: psychology and music.
What started as a way of talking about mental health in a community I genuinely belong to has grown into a platform reaching hundreds of thousands of people giving me the opportunity to interview musicians, attend festivals and concerts, analyse lyrics, and have conversations about psychology in some unexpected places!
But the part I value most about this is hearing from people who tell me that something I’ve shared has helped them understand themselves differently, feel less alone, or finally put words to something they’ve been experiencing.
That’s exactly the same thing I want to bring into therapy too.
And no, you do not have to like metal music to work with me!
why i do this work
Mental health is something I care about far beyond the job title.
I have experienced significant grief and lost cherished friends to suicide. I’ve struggled with social anxiety myself, and I’m also neurodivergent. My own journey has involved unpicking some of the things I learned to do to ‘fit in’, cope, and mask, and learning that understanding why we respond the way we do can be incredibly powerful.
These experiences don’t make me an expert in anyone else’s life, but they have shaped the therapist I wish to be.
I’m warm, compassionate and non-judgemental, but I’m also not afraid to gently challenge you when it could be helpful. I want therapy to be a space where you can be honest about what’s happening without feeling like there’d something fundamentally ‘wrong’ with you.
My clinical foundation is CBT, but I don’t believe therapy should be a one-size-fits-all formula. Ultimately, I want to help you make sense of your mind, feel validated while also finding a way forward that feels like yours.
