1:1 Therapy
WHAT IS CBT?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a psychological therapy that explores the relationship between the way we think, feel, and behave, and how these patterns can sometimes keep us stuck.
CBT is both exploratory and practical; often called a ‘talking therapy’ but, I feel, it is more of a ‘doing therapy’. It gives you space to understand what’s happening to you and make sense of it, whilst also helping you develop new skills and make changes in your everyday life.
WHAT CAN CBT HELP WITH?
Generalised anxiety or excessive worrying
Depression and low mood
Social anxiety
Obessessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Phobias and fears, including emetophobia
Low self-esteem
Panic attacks
Trauma-related difficulties
WHAT DOES THERAPY WITH ME LOOK LIKE?
CBT therapy isn’t about sitting in a room while someone tells you your thoughts are ‘wrong’, and it isn’t about being handed a worksheet and being sent on your way either.
We will work collaboratively to understand your difficulties in greater depth, identify patterns that may be maintaining your difficulties and consider what you would like to change.
This might involve developing new ways of responding to difficult thoughts or feelings, changing behaviours that may be keeping difficulties going, gradually facing things you’ve been avoiding where safe and appropriate to do so, or learning practical strategies to manage symptoms.
I will draw from my core therapeutic background but will always keep the therapy tailored to you rather than following a one-size-fits-all formula. Lastly, but crucially, I will never force you to do anything you are not ready for.
